Dr. Stehly grew up in the Midwest. He was born in Minnesota and also lived in Chicago and Overland Park, Kansas. Upon graduation from high school he obtained his bachelor of science degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio followed by his internship in general surgery. Dr. Stehly’s orthopedic surgery residency was also completed at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Having developed a special interest in complex shoulder reconstruction and sports medicine, he then completed his fellowship in each of these areas under nationally known orthopaedists Jesse Delee, M.D. and Stephen Burkhart, M. D. Also, in the course of his studies he completed research in the following areas: pediatric femur fractures, wound healing in diabetics, and ambulation after hip resection arthroplasty.
